A panel to decide on the mode of appointment in the universities of Haryana


CHANDIGARH: Following an outcry over the state government’s decision to change the recruitment process for teaching and non-teaching positions in universities, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Wednesday that a committee of five Members would be formed to make decisions regarding appointments to various positions in state universities.

The committee will include the representative of the governor (chancellor), principal secretary (higher education) and vice-chancellors (VC) of three universities, Khattar said in the Vidhan Sabha, assuring that the instructions of the UGC will be followed.

He said that appointments to universities will be made transparently and on the basis of merit only and that the autonomy of universities will remain intact.

Veracity of a WhatsApp chat

Questioning the veracity of a WhatsApp chat that opposition leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda read to the assembly on Monday, Chief Minister Khattar said he asked former CM Hooda to officially share the copy of the cat in question.

An official spokesperson said that after Hooda’s refusal to respond, Khattar asked the speaker to fully investigate the discussion paper Hooda read to the House on Monday as an unverified transcript of ‘a conversation between two people who were touring social media platforms. Hooda had said that in this conversation there were indications of money trading and manipulation in recruiting.

The former CM said on Wednesday that the state government should investigate the chat message on its own and that it would not become party to the matter. “I mentioned the cell phone number involved in the conversation. Find out for yourself who are all involved in this conversation, ” Hooda said, according to a statement released by the government.

276 cases recorded under peasant agitation

The CM said the state government will withdraw all registered cases against farmers except cases involving heinous crimes such as rape, murder, etc.

He said that according to police records, 276 cases have been recorded during the agitation of the farmers so far. While four cases have been registered as serious offenses, an indictment has been drawn up in 178 cases and 158 cases remain untraceable.

During the interaction with the farmers, it emerged that the number of deceased farmers from Haryana is 73.

3% increase in DA

The CM said that the state government has decided to increase the rate of employee cost allowance (DA) and cost relief for retirees and family retirees by 28% of base salary. and the pension at 31% with effect from July 1, 2021.

The government has also decided to increase the share of the NPS scheme implemented for new employees from 10 percent to 14 percent on central government lines which will be implemented from January 1, 2022.
