BREAKING: CNN’s Abby Phillip announced as American University early fall 2021 speaker

The American University announced CNN correspondent Abby Phillip as the keynote speaker for early fall of this year at the first in-person ceremony since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 142nd AU launch will take place at Bender Arena on December 19. Graduates can sit together and all guests and speakers can attend in person. Phillip, senior political correspondent and host of Inside Politics Sunday on CNN, will receive an honorary doctorate in human letters.

“A speaker like Abby Phillip, who makes an impact every day through her work, is the culmination of the hands-on learning experience our graduates have had throughout their time at American University,” wrote President Sylvia M. Burwell in the email. .

About 1,500 summer and fall graduates will receive degrees from the university’s seven schools, including the Washington College of Law and the AU’s professional and executive education and training programs, the email said.

For those unable to attend, AU will be hosting an online graduate recognition feature this fall. Videos with individual slides for all eligible August, September and December graduates will be available for viewing on the startup site.

“I am deeply honored to deliver the American University’s fall opening address at the university’s first in-person opening ceremony since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Philip in the University press release.

Philip is a former White House correspondent for CNN and was named to the Time 100 Next list in 2021, and she received the Women of Power Award from the National Urban League.

“I am grateful to offer my words of encouragement to the new class of American and world leaders,” she said. “I look forward to sharing with these graduates my thoughts on how they can guide us into any future with courage and truth. “
