German brand Loewe enters the wireless speaker jungle with its new Klang speaker family

Multiroom wireless speakers are all the rage right now. Since Sonos took over this part of the market, other audio brands have tried to establish themselves. German premium TV and audio maker Loewe (German for Lion) has just entered the fray with its klang mr speaker family. Loewe has enjoyed an excellent reputation for design and technology since its founding in 1923 and has a heritage of combining high quality technology with sophisticated contemporary designs.

Unlike some manufacturers who have developed their own wireless multiroom technology, Loewe has chosen to use DTS Play-Fi, a premium wireless audio ecosystem that can work with any other DTS Play-Fi product regardless of the manufacturer. . DTS Play-Fi agnostic offers great functionality with support for a range of streaming services. Loewe has also included support for Apple AirPlay 2 so that klang mr speakers can fit into your existing multiroom setup.

The entry level loudspeaker of the klang range is the mr1 with a power of 30 watts, the mr1 is ideal as a rear speaker for the Loewe klang bar5 mr. It has a built-in wall mount and a compact design that makes it ideal for working with a second mr1 as a pair of rear speakers in a home theater setup.

The next model in the series is the Loewe klang mr3. With three full-range speakers, a subwoofer, and two passive radiators, this bookshelf-sized speaker can deliver balanced sound with up to 150 watts of power. The mr3 has powerful bass and clear treble extension.

The latest member of the klang family is the mr5. With a whopping 180 watts of total power, the klang mr5 is the largest speaker in the lineup. It packs three tweeters, three full-range speakers, a subwoofer, and two passive radiators for a real punch.

All klang speakers can be connected to a smartphone or tablet via bluetooth, allowing users and their guests to easily stream music from a favorite playlist. With their elegant design, the three klang loudspeakers pay homage to the Loewe product range, past and present. The bodies of the three speakers are covered in premium acoustic fabric with a style that can accommodate a wide range of spaces.

These new wireless speakers are unusual in that there aren’t many wireless multiroom speakers that support the open DTS Play-Fi standard. For example, Sonos, Denon, Naim, BlueSound, B&W, and many other big brands tend to use proprietary multiroom protocols as well as built-in Apple AirPlay and Google Chromecast. Loewe’s adoption of the DTS Play-Fi protocol allows Loewe klang loudspeakers to fit into an existing DTS Play-Fi configuration. Support for Apple AirPlay 2 is also a useful feature that should make the klang speaker family a versatile and flexible choice.

Price and availability: All three Klang wireless speakers are now available in the UK and EU. Unfortunately, the klang range is not available in the US at the moment. The mr1 costs £ 299 / € 299. The klang mr3 sells for £ 549 / € 549, while the larger mr5 sells for £ 649 / € 649.
