Google Home Mini adds more fun to any party. Not only can you ask it to play any song online, but you can also stream your choice of music to it.
However, at the same time, your friends might also want to join in the fun and play songs from their playlists. Since sharing your primary Wi-Fi password isn’t such a brilliant idea, what can be done in such a situation?
Do not worry! This is where the Guest mode on Google Home Mini comes to your rescue. The best thing about this feature is that it allows users to stream songs directly to the device without connecting to Wi-Fi.
Google Home guest mode works on both iOS and Android and is easy to set up.
This feature works on both iOS and Android and is easy to configure. The only prerequisite is that Airplay (in the case of iOS devices) or Bluetooth (for Android) must be activated.
So, without further ado, let’s see how you can enable Guest Mode on Google Home devices.
1. How to activate guest mode
Step 1: Explore the Google Home app
Press the Device setting in the top right corner of the Google Home app. Once there, tap on the three-dot menu of the device you want to stream your music to.
Fun fact: Do you like to rap? Try saying “Hey Google, beatbox” and see the magic happen.
Step 2: Activate guest mode
Press the Guest mode option and, once inside, activate the switch. This action will recover a Device PIN for you.
The same PIN code can be used by multiple guests to connect to the same Google Home speaker.
Guest mode for Google Home devices will stay on unless you turn it off manually. During this time, almost any smartphone will be able to connect to your device.
2. Allow guest access to guest mode
Step 1: Check your 4G connection
Now that the guest mode is set up, all you have to do is stream your music to the Google Home device. In order to enjoy a seamless connection, make sure your 4G network is at its best.
Open an app with the streaming option such as Spotify, Google Play Music or Gaana (the alternative to Spotify in India) and press the To throw button.
Pairing can be automatic, depending on your proximity to the Google Home Mini device.
Step 2: Wait for automatic pairing and enjoy the party
If automatic pairing doesn’t seem to work, you’ll need to use the manual method. You will be prompted to enter the four-digit PIN code, which was generated previously. Once the connection is established, all you have to do is wait for the start of the evening.
Google Home’s guest mode lets you stream your content as long as the devices are in the same room. Plus, the ability to switch apps and the home’s potential to respond to a multitude of commands make it even better.
It’s a deliciously smart way to keep your Wi-Fi passwords private, if you ask me.
Bonus point: Link and stream Netflix
Another cool trick that Google Home devices have up their sleeve is that you can link your Netflix account to your Home devices. While you’re at it, it lets you play and control playback directly via voice commands.
Just head to More settings in the Google Home app, scroll to Videos and photos heading, press the Connect option and enter your Netflix ID.
Now all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your shows without lifting a finger. Awesome, isn’t it?
Get the most out of your Google Home
Google Home devices are amazing products. What I love about these AI powered speakers is that they can understand a variety of questions without any issues.
Plus, the ability to stream content on it without having to share your password is indeed the icing on the cake.
