MLK Keynote Speaker Reverend Leroy Adams, Jr. Encourages Us to Find the ‘Strength to Love’

The Reverend Leroy Adams, Jr. will be the keynote speaker on Monday at the Greater Ministerial League’s virtual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration.

He has been in the ministry for nearly 40 years, taking it to places like Oklahoma, Nebraska and Germany.

He is currently the pastor of Providence Baptist Church in San Francisco.

Reverend Adams studied at Harvard, prayed at the White House and organized a citywide water relief effort for Flint, Michigan. He even received an MLK award for his community work.

As a Baptist minister, Reverend Adams says he was touched by Dr. King’s life and activism. Thinking about the civil rights leader’s speeches, he says, there’s one that really resonates with him.

“What really stands out is his last speech to the public in Memphis, Tennessee, the day before his assassination and how his transparency stood out in regards to his mission, and that was to do the will of God” , did he declare. “Whatever he stood for, as far as non-violence was concerned, when he opposed the Vietnam War, certainly helping these men in Memphis, Tennessee, so they could have equal pay .

Despite the division and conflict raging in America on many fronts, Reverend Adams says his message will focus on cultivating unity and mutual support.

“We must have the strength to love,” he said. “I think that was the basis of Dr. Martin Luther King in terms of interacting in a non-violent way.

“I believe in this same ideology that we must continue to love those who hate us, do good to those who use us wickedly, and pray for those who persecute us. We must speak truth to power. We must be angry without be vengeful. . So my message is to encourage us to have the strength to love everyone.”

The Greater Wichita Ministerial League MLK Virtual Celebration will take place on Monday, January 17 at noon.

The celebration will also be broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube.
