DORSET – The United Church of Dorset and East Rupert celebrates the 10th anniversary celebration of the only PFLAG chapter in southern Vermont on May 8 at 4 p.m.
PFLAG stands for “Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays” and is a national network of local groups dedicated to supporting and educating all people, straight or gay, about LGBTQ issues. Since its inception, the local chapter has helped to form a vital and caring community around a wide range of topics such as: supporting families and individuals who are “going out”; AIDS and HIV history and updates; cultural issues such as same-sex adoption, vacations, dating, parenthood; awareness of relevant political issues in the country; history of the gay movement in America; reviews of books, periodicals and films; well-researched, love-based interfaith perspectives on homosexuality; and ties to statewide and regional organizations of a similar mission.
To mark the anniversary, all are invited to hear from nationally renowned speaker on transgender issues, Ben Greene, of St. Louis, Missouri. Ben is a transgender man who has educated large and small groups, businesses and religious people on transgender issues.
After his hour-long presentation, which includes many questions and answers, there will be a reception and birthday party. The event is free. for more information, contact the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert at 802-867-2260 or email@example.com. The church is located at 143 Church Street (near Route 30) in Dorset.
