The Colleton County Library has invited Lester Young to speak on Saturday, July 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The name of Young’s program is “Changing the Narrative.” The purpose of this program is to start an honest conversation about crime, prevention and redemption.
Lester Young is originally from Hilton Head Island. At the age of 19, Young was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 20 years. While in prison, Young struggled to find redemption and often wondered what his purpose was. Young wondered, “what mark do you want to leave in this world?” It was then that he released his goal. With the warden’s approval, Young and the prison chaplain began meeting to create plans, programs, and courses to instruct and mentor other inmates. From there, Young created his non-profit organization, “Path2Redemption”. On May 15, 2014, Young was paroled. His programs are still carried out even after his release.
This program is free. There will also be a presentation of the plagues to the citizens of the community for their contribution to the community and the organization.
