Awareness of all necessary to prevent adulteration, counterfeit products: speaker

Jatiya Sangsad speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury during a broadcast on Monday said raising awareness among people from all walks of life is needed to prevent counterfeit products and food adulteration.

“The Consumer Rights Protection Act is a timely initiative and its implementation should be ensured through appropriate measures,” Shirin said while speaking as the program’s chief guest at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The program was part of the Budget Help Desk 2022 project implemented by the Parliament’s Secretariat’s Budget Analysis and Monitoring Unit with technical support from the European Union, DT Global and the Center for Policy Dialogue, says A press release.

The speaker said that many are working to secure consumer rights at the upazila level.

“Public officials from different areas can sensitize people conducting different campaigns to prevent adulterated and counterfeit products,” said Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

The event was chaired by Secretary of the Secretariat of Parliament KM Abdus Salam.

Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Director of CPD (Research), gave the welcome speech during the programme’s “budget debriefing session”.

Jatiya Sangsad’s whip, Shamsul Haq Chowdhury, and lawmaker Matia Chowdhury, among others, were present on the program.
