Kodagu, Aug 19 (IANS): The ruling BJP and the Karnataka Congress are in showdown mode over the opposition party’s plans to besiege the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kodagu.
Opposition leader Siddaramaiah announced on Friday that he would lead the August 26 protest condemning an egg attack on his vehicle.
“The large-scale protest will take place that day under my leadership. The state government led the egg attack. Congress is going to come to power in the next 6-8 months. They have become desperate and have planned the attack on me,” he explained.
Meanwhile, former BJP chairman and MP KG Bopaiah slammed Siddaramaiah for his comments and said, “We are ready and accept the challenge. Let them (Congress) besiege the SP office. This attitude Siddaramaiah’s autocratic rule is untenable.”
“There is no police negligence as such. May Siddaramaiah stop threatening the police department and correct his attitude,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have arrested 10 BJP workers in connection with the attack.
Hundreds of BJP workers had gathered outside the Kushalnagar police station where the activists are being held.
The workers were later released on bail.
BJP Bopaiah, Appachu Ranjan were present at the police station at the time of their release.
