FBI’s Isobel Revealed Her Agent Origin In Violent New Episode, And I Didn’t See It Coming

Spoilers ahead for the March 22 episode of FBI on CBS, called “Scar Tissue”.

FBI put the team on the trail of a serial killer after a local murder case took a turn, and the investigation took them to a hotel which resulted in a family connection for Alana De La Garzait’s Isobel. Her father was in charge of the hotel, but did not cooperate in the affair – which turned very violent for the team – until his hand was forced. Isobel was convinced that Robert (played by guest star Nestor Serrano) was hard to punish her for not making time for him, and the tension came to a head at the end of “Scar Tissue” with the revelation of why she joined the FBI in the first place.

Isobel didn’t actually suffer any of the violence in this episode, because Tip was caught off guard by the killer and attacked (although she survived) and O.A. (WHO already had a pretty tough season) later had to fight for his life, and he almost certainly would have been killed had it not been for the timely arrival of maggie to kill the bad guy. It was a high-stakes and stressful hour for Isobel as her father blocked the investigation, so when he showed up at her office unannounced, she didn’t fare well even when he tried to say he was proud of her.

Robert established that Isobel’s mother dreamed of working with the FBI, and after he didn’t drop the subject, Isobel explained her real reason for joining the Bureau:

You know, FYI, I didn’t join the FBI to make mom proud. I joined to drive you crazy. … Yeah, you wanted me to go to law school, so I did the opposite just to piss you off. I guess I should say thank you.

Isobel tried to push her father away by suggesting they reconnect and have a relationship again, and didn’t soften until he explained that he didn’t go to his mother’s funeral because that she had asked him not to. All it took was for Isobel to agree to go out to dinner with her daddy, so maybe this is the start of a new era for them.

Plus, fans have now heard Isobel first-hand about why she joined the FBI, and her reveal was certainly not what I saw coming, given her performance and rise to the Bureau. She may have joined in order to piss off her father, but she definitely thrived in the FBI. In reality, After the death of Rina earlier in the season 4, Isobel is the highest ranked regular on the show.

FBI also used Isobel’s story to address the most recent major tragedy in the CBS corner of Dick Wolf’s nine-show television universe. FBI: Most Wanted said goodbye to the former leader Julien McMahon by killing Jess LaCroixand Jubal – WHO knows a little something about losing someone at work after losing Rina – tried to be there for Isobel.

Most Wanted showrunner David Huggins shared that Alana De La Garza will appear in one episode as the show deals with the aftermath of death. On whether or not she’ll react to the addition of Dylan McDermott as the new character who will “invigorate” the season, Only time will tell. For now, you can expect new episodes of FBI Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, and find more viewing options on our 2022 TV Schedule.
