Dr. Deidre S. Gifford, Commissioner of the Department of Social Services, will be the keynote speaker at the Waterbury Regional Chamber’s Health Care Council annual meeting and awards ceremony on August 16.
Governor Ned Lamont appointed Dr. Gifford to head the Department of Human Services in June 2019. She has obtained leadership services with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and experience in medical practice, industry nonprofit and government service in Rhode Island.
During the May 2020 pandemic, Gifford was named head of the public health department as acting commissioner, playing a key role through September 2021 on the governor’s team responding to the outbreak.

The Healthcare Council will also present its 17th year annual awards, recognizing professionals and organizations that demonstrate advocacy, organizational excellence, leadership and selflessness in the healthcare community. The 2022 prizes and winners are:
