McEnany remains guest speaker at Athens 2022 Chamber | New

The Athens Regional Chamber of Commerce has announced that Kayleigh McEnany will be speaking at the organization’s 15th annual event on June 25, 2022.

McEnany’s most publicized role was as press secretary to former President Donald Trump from April 2020 until he stepped down earlier this year.

Following McEnany’s announcement as a speaker, the Athens region chamber board issued a statement regarding her selection.

“The Board of Directors of the Athens Region Chamber of Commerce is made up of a representative cross section of people from the Athens community who are dedicated to the chamber’s goal,” advancing well-being general and prosperity of the Athens region, “” the statement read. “Historically, the decision to bring in a speaker for the annual event has not been reviewed by the board of directors and has been made at the sole discretion of the president of the chamber. This year’s selection was no different.

In the statement, officials addressed any concerns area residents may have about McEnany’s appearance.

“The Board of Directors acknowledged that the selection of Kayleigh McEnany as a speaker at this time has raised deep concerns among some members of the Athens community,” he continued. “After much discussion and by majority vote, the board has decided to honor the existing contract with Kayleigh McEnany and associated sponsorships.”

However, it was noted that this will lead to some changes in the future to determine a speaker at the event.

“Future speaker selections will be reviewed by the full board of directors before contracts are signed,” the statement said.

It was also decided to make a charitable donation with part of the income from the event.

“The board has also decided to use 10% (or no less than $ 15,000) to fund existing small business initiatives in the Athens area aimed at providing opportunities to diverse populations,” added the press release.
