The Good Supply at Pemaquid celebrates its 10th anniversary on Saturday, August 6 with the opening of Whale Club, an exhibition featuring the installation of a 9-foot whale sculpture, created by UpSculpt artist Cindy Pease Roe.

The public is invited to this milestone event, which will also include new work from Alec Madoff, EFM Studio, Jessie Renew and Mermaid Meadow. There will also be special guest educational exhibits on site, including the UMaine Darling Marine Center, the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Science, and the Rozalia Project.

Whale Club is a family-friendly event with a kids-only area, pop-up shops and refreshments.

“We hope the event feels like an art opening and a science fair,” said Catherine McLetchie, owner of The Good Supply. “The area’s marine science organizations remind us that we are stewards of the environment, and the artists here are all inspired by nature.”

Inspiration for the show comes from Cindy Pease Roe, of UpSculpt. Pease Roe is a longtime champion of keeping plastics out of the ocean. According to the UpSculpt website, “upsculpt” combines upcycling and sculpting to create eco-friendly art to educate and engage the public about marine debris issues. The community collected materials for Pease Roe to build a whale sculpture that will debut at the event.

Alec Madoff, senior senior preparator at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, will participate in the installation of Whale Club and show sculptures and assemblages.

Liz Martone, artist from EFM studio, will present a suspended mosaic sculpture entitled “Disco Bubbles”, made from reclaimed moss. Renovation artist Jessie Renew will show off a site-specific light sculpture outside. Rounding out the event with a custom whale theme, Bevin Holmberg of Mermaid Meadow will be showcasing ceramics and patches for the event.

Leading up to the Whale Club Art Party, The Good Supply will be hosting a morning outdoor yoga class with guest instructor Adam Weatherford on Thursday, August 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The public is invited.

Weatherford is a 200-hour RYT Yoga Alliance Instructor, Certified Stress and Relaxation Therapist, and Certified Sports Nutritionist. He sits on the board of Donate Yoga and runs his own non-profit organization, Adam’s Balanced Citta, which focuses on healing through recreation.

Her class will be a session focused on hatha and vinyasa with conscious breathing and movement.

After the Weatherford class, participants are invited to shop and view artwork in The Good Supply’s post and beam barn.

The Good Supply barn storefront is located at 2106 Bristol Road in Pemaquid. Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a special artists’ reception on Saturday, August 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Artwork by Cindy Pease Roe will be on sale, along with special occasion items from selected artists, as well as unique crafts, paintings, homewares and gifts. For more information, or to view and purchase handmade products online, visit thegoodsupply.org.
